How to clean your dog beds. Part one

We are always told how easy it is to look after and maintain our wide range of dog beds. In this article series i am going to go over some of the different products in our range and how best to keep them looking great 24 hours a day 365 days a year.

I will start with our Wipe Clean Mattress Dog Bed. These beds are so easy to maintain, for example if you have been out in the wet muddy weather and your dog comes in, he may head straight for his dog bed. If he is tired he snuggles down for a nap and he will be so comfortable and snug that you will not want to wake him. You can quite happily let him sleep off his walk as you know that when he awakens you are most definitely not going to be left with a soggy dog bed that the wetness has soaked through and the inner stuffing has gone all lumpy and smelly. Our Wipe Clean Dog Beds are  fully encased in an acrylic coated polyester originating from the marine industry and designed for protection under wet conditions. The mud will have just dried up on top of the bed so it is simple to just hoover off the excess dried mud and dog hair and then wipe it down with any house hold cleaner. You can do this as much or as little as you feel necessary for day to day freshness. The Wipe Clean Dog Bed is also fantastic for spot cleaning, if your dog is particularly slobbery you can just wipe up the slob as and when it occurs. This bed is also recommended if you have an older perhaps slightly incontinent dog. If you put a towel under the bed the urine will run off on to the towel and you can throw it in the washing machine it will not soak in to the bed or if it is just tiny spots or dribbles you can just spay and wipe them up as you go.

Cleaning a Wipe Clean Mattress Dog Bed with soapy water

When it is a lovely day outside and you are doing a more intense clean, for example i usually do this when I am cleaning the floors in the kitchen where the dog beds are but this could be a weekly or monthly job. My favourite intense dog bed cleaning session is when spring has sprung. We don’t get such good oppertunities to get the dog beds outside to scrub over dark wet muddy winters. The dog beds get lined up against the wall I then boil the kettle or use really hot tap water and pour it all into a bucket. Then I add some Techwash from Nikwax into the bucket (you can use any liquid soap of your choice) put on thick rubber gloves so as not to burn your hands and use a sponge to wash the bed all over.

After you have worked the soap all over your dog bed it is so simple to just grab the hose and hose off the soap.

As this is the Wipe Clean Dog Bed all that you need to do after this stage is grab a towel and dry off the excess water, there is no need to leave a Wipe Clean Dog Bed to air dry as it the water just runs off it and is almost instantly dry. This leaves your dog beds looking like they are brand new ready for the next muddy walk.
