If your dog loves to sleep on the sofa, you are not alone. Most dogs love this because it is where YOU are. They obviously love the warmth and softness of the sofa, but the fact that they are higher up in the room, elevated from the floor is something dogs love. They enjoy being close to you and it would be very difficult to find a dog bed that would be more attractive to your dog than the sofa. However, dogs sleeping in a sofa will soon make the sofa hairy and smell of dog. Washing cushion covers etc is not easy.
The solution is two-fold: Giving your dog a fair alternative to the sofa and dog training.
A fair alternative: At Tuffies we have designed a little "Doggy Sofa", The Raised Tuffie Bed. This is a basic plastic construction that has a much higher sleeping plateau than a traditional dog bed on the floor. There are many advantages with this bed. The air gap that is created between the sleeping area and the floor gives the bed an important insulating effect. Further to this, the bed comes with a super soft and comfortable liner. The design means that for hygiene reasons this liner can be taken off in a matter of seconds and washes very well at 60 C. This is the temperature that kills pests and the superb quality of the fleece means that it is like new when you put it back on the raised bed after drying. The plastic part of the bed can be cleaned with a soapy sponge, rinsed off and towel dried. No smell of dog in your house! Training: It is perfectly possible to teach a dog that "on occasions" he is allowed in the sofa if this is what you want. Personally I allow my dogs in the sofa from time to time, but NOT always and never if anyone is eating. They have to be invited. When I leave the sofa they also MUST vacate it. Under no circumstances are they allowed to hop on to the sofa on their own. They have great alternatives for comfortable sleeping and they are very happy with this arrangement.
